At the outbreak of WWI, Joey, young Albert’s horse, is sold to the Cavalry and sent to France. Albert, who remained on his parents’ Devon farm, cannot forget Joey. Though still not old enough to enlist he embarks on a treacherous mission to join the war and fall captive to the horrific trench warfare
As Albert is going up over and into No Man's Land, we are able to see the gruesome truth of the war. Dead body's lay all over, Albert makes his way to Enemy trench, as he stops quivering in the fear of the war, Germans lay dead all over their trench. we are now able to see the really brutality that war really is. A German then runs into the trench and sets off the gas. Albert losses one of his close friends to the gas attack, Albert now blinded by the gas.
Albert is then sent to a rehabilitation center where all soldiers that have been injured, lost body parts, covered in shrapnel. Joey, Albert's horse is badly damaged, the police must shoot Joey to put him out of his misery because they do not have the medication to heal him. Albert has his eyes wrapped he then hears a horse in the distance. he whistles and calls Joey not knowing if its Joey. Joey knowing his owners call, follows to Albert. Albert knows its his horse. The police unable to shoot this young mans horse, allows Albert to nurse Joey back to health.
